The Catalyst
Despite knowing that eventually she does want to share her life with someone, Blue has always managed to live independently and enjoy life alone. A recent conversation with her mother, however, makes Blue wonder if she has been doing something wrong.
“You’re not giving off an open vibe,” my mother said. “That’s why you’re always single. You let out a vibe that says you’re closed off and don’t need anyone.”
“What? That’s crazy. I’m open,” I said, not exactly sure what she meant, but feeling the need to defend myself just the same.
“You may think you’re open, but you’re not. People can sense that you won’t let them in . . . it’s more than just saying you don’t want to be alone. . .” she paused trying to find the right words to explain what she meant. “You’re just not open.”

Although Blue normally brushes aside her mother’s comments, for some reason she is unable to let go of the thought that she might be closing herself off to finding love.
